| Rodney Bewes: Three Men in a BoatThursday 2nd September at 8pm
A final farewell – so he says – to this show from Rodney Bewes, who has been touring it now for a dozen years. The veteran of The Likely Lads, tells for the final time the gentle story of some friends and the dog Montmorency as they take a boating holiday down the Thames. Full of humour, nostalgia and period detail, the story is true to Jerome K Jerome’s original, enlivened by Rodney Bewes’ own ability to delight and interact with an audience and his keen sense of contemporary relevance

| Virginia Ironside: The Virginia Monologues: Why It’s Great To Be 60Friday October 8th at 8pm
According to Virginia Ironside, doyenne of Fleet Street and agony aunt extraordinaire, one of the myriad pleasures of hitting one’s sixties is the confidence that comes with old age. This show is all about that – and some. The show, directed by Nigel Planer, is a gentle, life-affirming ramble through the joys of being a sexagenarian – the bus passes, the bird-watching, the glamorous dressing gowns and the grandchildren. However, the vision of old age that comes with the BUPA leaflet is blown clean out of the water in this acerbic, touching and downright funny show for all ages.

| Quondam Theatre Company: The Wife of Usher’s WellFriday 22nd October at 8pm
Written by Borderer Jules Horne, award winning writer for stage and radio, this show is a modern retelling of the supernatural ballad, the story of a soldier son’s supernatural return to his mother for one last night together. In the musical storytelling theatre style which has become Quondam Theatre’s hallmark, this timeless situation of a mother and son fighting to say the things they always meant to say will be one of the highlights of the season at Bowhill. As Karen, a feisty 40 something, fights to keep truths from her ghostly wayward son, they relive moments from his childhood, including favourite Border stories such as The Wizard’s Apprentice and Thomas the Rhymer. Told in different performance styles with music and song, the show will enthrall, delight and ultimately lift the spirits.

| Gerard Logan: The Rape of Lucrece by William ShakespeareFriday 5th November at 8pm
A brilliant, brutal narrative poem giving an account of the terrible crime of rape and its dreadful consequences for victim and perpetrator. As ever, though, Shakespeare goes beyond the obvious, following the ramifications of the crime wherever they take him, shining a light on human behaviour. “……..If you love poetry, Shakespeare, or just a good story brilliantly told don’t miss this show. You will rarely have the chance to experience great poetry brought to life this well. Faultlessly performed by Gerard Logan, in the pure spirit-filled voice of a master, this performance is one the Royal Shakespeare Company could be proud of having produced…” ***** Fringe Review (Edinburgh 2008)
