Victorian Kitchen
Would you like to take a step back in time? Discover for yourself what a real Victorian kitchen would have looked like at Bowhill.
Our splendidly restored Victorian kitchen has come a long way since it was first used around the mid 1830s. In continual use until 1937 when it was virtually destroyed by fire, the kitchen now offers visitors a rare glimpse into a bygone era.
Painstaking restoration work was done with the help of former staff including the retired family steward Mr Rowland and his wife, who was the family’s cook for many years and remembered the kitchen in it’s hey day.
This kitchen served all the needs of the family living at Bowhill and their guests, including visiting dignitaries from across the world. Today these needs are met by a kitchen more centrally located in the basement of the main house.
