| Preservation of FoodThe ability to preserve food for all year round use was a vital skill in days gone by, especially before the invention of refrigeration. Bottling of fruit and vegetables was commonplace and smoking and pickling ensured that food coud be eaten out of season. Of course, the making of jams, jellies and chutneys kept maids busy for hours and ensured that good food was available all year. |
