Nutty the squirrel has just created his first word search for all you children out there.

Why not ask your parents to print this page for you and see if you can find all the birds in the puzzle.

June - Like children us squirrels need calcium.  We need to make sure our teeth are nice and healthy to eat acorns.

Wildlife Quiz – Foxes

Wildlife Quiz

Foxes live in woodlands and open country, but their presence in urban areas is increasing.

They are opportunist feeders and eat mostly small mammals, particularly rabbits.  They will also feed on insects, fruit, berries, wild birds and scraps left by humans.

Foxes live in dens and will have more than one den in its territory.  The main chamber of these dens can be up to 3 metres underground. Their territories range from between 25 to 5,000 acres dependent on the type of habitat they are living in and are marked by faeces and urine.

They are solitary animals but very occasionally they will group together in packs.

Foxes have young, called pups, at any time of the year when food is available and usually have between 4-7 cubs in a litter.

Foxes are particularly active at dusk and night.

See if you can answer the following questions about foxes

  1. What is a fox’s favourite food?
  2. What is a fox’s home called?
  3. What are the young of foxes called?
  4. What part of the day are foxes active?

Send your answers to bowhillranger@buccleuch.com

Nutty on Tour

Nutty on Tour

Nutty isn't like normal red squirrels, he likes to explore different towns, visitor attractions and even countries.  Unfortunately Nutty has found that travel agents don't take nuts as payment.  Could you help Nutty explore by taking him with you when you go away?

Remember to send us a photo if you take your Nutty away with you! Email it to bht@buccleuch.com

(Large and small Nutty soft toys are available from our gift shop)

November 2009

Nutty's first day out was to Dunstanburgh Castle near Alwnick. He enjoyed it but was glad he had all his fur to keep him warm

Beamish

Beamsih

December 2009

In December Nutty visited Beamish to enjoy the Christmas festivities. Nutty didn't see Santa but he had a great day exploring the old mining village, riding on a tram and tasting  old fashioned sweets in the old fashioned sweet shop.
