Wild in the Woods - Wednesday 28th July – 2-4pm
Take part in one of our most popular activities – Den Building!

How did they cope without supermarkets?
In Victorian days there was no Tesco, ASDA or Morrisons.   Find out how the people in Bowhill house used to get their food.  Adult £4.50/Child £3.50/Season Pass £1


 


August

Pond Dip & Do -  Wednesday 4th August  - 2– 3.30pm
Discover why the ‘shimmying shrimp’ shimmies and how spiders catch their prey in the water. Adult £4.50/Child £3.50/Season Pass £1

Borders Youth Theatre : Peter Pan - Thursday 5th August – Sunday 8th August at 7pm
To mark its 21st Birthday, Borders Youth Theatre presents this outdoor performance across 2 areas in Bowhill Gardens.  Full of fantasies and fairies, pirates and adventures, this story of the little boy who never grew up is directed by John Haswell from an original interpretation of J M Barrie’s much loved book.
Tickets £8 adults £6 concessions.  Family ticket £25 (2 adults 3 children)

Scarecrow Competition Launch -  Sunday 8th August
Come along to Bowhill today for the launch of our first scarecrow competition.  Get some tips and ideas from the Bowhill rangers on how to make your own scarecrow and enter into our competition, scarecrows will be displayed and the winners announced at our Harvest Festival on 26 September, cash prize £100.  Regular entry price applies. Tai Chi at Bowhill - Wednesday 11th August - 2pm- 3.30pm
Looking to energise and balance body, mind and spirit, amid the demands and challenges of modern life?  Why not join the Bowhill Rangers for a walk in the beautiful and peaceful surroundings of Bowhill House and learn a little bit about Qi Gong/Tai Chi on the terraces in front of Bowhill House. Adult £4.50/Child £3.50/Season Pass £1

The Rebellious Reivers and the Avenging Archers - Saturday 14th August – 1pm- 4.30pm
The Scotts of Buccleuch were once a well-known reiving family.  Come and enjoy demonstrations and lessons from Hawick Reivers Association in sword fighting, and the Ettrick Forest Archers in longbow archery.  Adult £4.50/Child £3.50/Season Pass £1

Trees and their roots -  Wednesday 18th August – 2pm – 4pm
Join the Bowhill ranger for a guided walk round Bowhill policies; discover the heritage of these magnificent trees and the history of their planting on the estate. Adult £4.50/Child £3.50/Season Pass £1

Travels and Libraries:  The Grand Tour at Bowhill - Friday 3rd September
A talk and tour by Professor David Howarth

For those who attended the lecture on 11th June this will be an interesting addition, but the content will also stand alone very well in it own right.  The main emphasis today will be on looking at some of the journals in Bowhill House not on general display to the casual visitor.  There will be an opportunity to examine some of the private folios at Bowhill which reflect the interest in the Grand Tour taken by British aristocrats.  You will be able to find out how the Grand Tour found a permanent place in the history and collective memory through looking at illustrated books and other unusual artefacts

All 3 insight tours begin with a cup of tea at 1.30pm with a chance to meet the lecturer and chat before a 2pm start.  The talk will be followed by a tour and then a traditional delicious Buccleuch Afternoon Tea in conclusion

Harvest Festival –  Sunday 26th September – 12-4pm
 Join us for our first Harvest Festival at Bowhill.  With hay bales, music and dancing in the courtyard its sure to be a fun filled afternoon for all ages.  Bowhill House will also be open for special tours at no extra charge and why not enter our Scarecrow Competition for the chance to win £100.       £6 Adult/ £5 Child. Feed the Birds -  Wednesday 13th October – 2pm- 3.30pm
Join the Ranger at Bowhill and make some tasty treats for our feathered friends to enjoy!

Fungal Foray - Saturday 16th October – 2pm-3.30pm
Join the Bowhill Ranger to explore the fungi around the grounds and discover why fungi are so important to us and our environment.

Full Moon Frolics- Saturday 30th October - 4.30pm-7pm
Join us this Halloween for an evening of spooky fun and frolics in the courtyard of Bowhill.  With lots of great games, there will be full moon fun for all the family.  Dress to impress for our fancy dress competition.  Refreshments and light snacks available. £5 per person

Family Ghost Walk- Saturday 30th October - 5pm OR 7pm
Wrap up warm and bring your torch as you explore the grounds of Bowhill House in the dark meeting some past Buccleuch family members, friends and foes.
£10 Adult, £8 Child (Free entry to Full Moon Frolics)

Haunted History of Buccleuch  - Saturday 30th October - 9pm (Only 30 Tickets Available)
Discover the mysterious pasts of the Buccleuch family in our popular adult only ghost walk.
£16pp including Mulled Wine to start and Stovie Supper to follow.   Adults only

Insight Tour - Sunday 28th November 2pm
Jeremy Musson, architectural editor of ‘Country Life’ magazine for 10 years,  and writer and presenter for BBC 2’s ‘Curious House Guest’ series gives a talk on his latest book ‘Up and Down Stairs: A History of the Country House Servant’ followed by a tour of Bowhill House concentrating on the domestic arrangement and use of its rooms and their contents.

December

Wreath Making Workshop - 1 December - 10.30am-12.30am 
Take time to enjoy the festive period and create a traditional Christmas wreath that you and your guests will admire.  When you are finished, enjoy a creamy cappuccino and mince pie.  Price £15 – Includes Hot Drink and Mince Pie

Happy Holly-Day - Sunday 12th December – 2pm-4pm
Make traditional decorations to hang on your tree or try your hand at creating your own bang by making a Christmas cracker.  Price £5.50 Adult & £4.50 Child.  Price includes Tea, Mince Pies, and Carol Singing.
